I find it extremely intimidating when I'm in environments where my knowledge is vastly small in comparison. Assuming you are an underqualified diversity hire, I would assume it would only make you feel even worse and further enforce stereotypes, not the reverse as they hope for.

But you know, it's a free market decision (albeit a poor one) and bad inefficient decisions will just lead to a shittier company output which can get outpaced by those who don't.
