I find it extremely intimidating when I'm in environments where my knowledge is vastly small in comparison. Assuming you are an underqualified diversity hire, I would assume it would only make you feel even worse and further enforce stereotypes, not the reverse as they hope for.

But you know, it's a free market decision (albeit a poor one) and bad inefficient decisions will just lead to a shittier company output which can get outpaced by those who don't.

Be truthful with the women. Equal people for equal work. They are either as good as the men or their main job is making the tea.

Although women can do jobs like source code librarian. They file the printouts of the programs and ensure the operational programs get released including archiving test programs and test data. The list of these items is genuinely useful documentation.

Definition of useful - if the programmer has to come in at 3 o'clock Sunday morning to perform an emergency fix he will read it to find where everything is stored.
