Because they are a communication platform and their product is speech. Political censorship is discrimination. Only weak minded people with indefensible positions favor censorship because their ideas cannot stand up to the scrutiny of a public forum. People need to hear things that they disagree with because it either logically strengthens their position or exposes a false position. If newspapers 1925 censored the unpopular Scopes monkey trial, we might still be teaching creationism. The truth no matter how unpopular is better than a convenient lie.

I agree censorship is bad, but my point was more of, why not allow another rival to jump up. To me, it is the same as telling Facebook, “it hurts my feelings that you are biased, so you must legally stop deleting the records I put on your website”.

Bit like when the Klan sued to be allowed on the News. Interesting article, unfortunately I can’t find another easily on Mobile about it:

I see your position. Thankfully, younger people today have built a natural BS filter when it comes to the media. However, Facebook is now a bigger media outlet than the New York Times. By filtering stories and posts based on a politically biased position, we are robbing people the ability to decide for themselves. The best defense of a Democracy in a well informed public.
