That's why they just destroyed Linux. Steam/Valve is using it as a base for their OS which would have allowed a huge number of reluctant Windows-using hold-outs to migrate to an open source OS. Linux (and it's offspring) would have gone through a major developmental phase as a result of such a massive user base increase, which in turn would have sent the increasingly gimped Windows platform into it's much deserved grave and killed the idea of anyone "owning" and dictating the nature and functionality of an OS forever (except in the minds of MacFags, but there's no saving them in general).

I most certainly agree - but it must be said that the flaws in the hardware do work 'hand in hand' with a robustly 'backdoored' set of infustructure that is at the software and firmware level i.e memory and bios - so without a totally flawed OS the options become much more limited , well less 'automatic' i think
as stated with the MS takeover of 'Linux' that leave Earth with 'Mac' and 'Windows' which nessicates the means and need for a 3rd system.
i know nothing about this system quoted here - but without a 'start point' i.e back a the machine code level it's trying to push a big turd up a small hill.
i.e unless it's a whole new protocol that runs on a new set of software {also with optional hardware}, nope.
What are you talking about? You can always use an external HDD as your primary drive, build a Faraday Cage around your PC with a small opening for an ethernet cord and a trustworthy router.
They are indeed trying to infiltrate FOSS but due to the nature of FOSS it is difficult to implement any backdoors (but not impossible so your observations are still valid).
The problem with an OS that is well designed is that it has a good variety of user-friendly features (see LM19). This means more code. More code = less likely for any single individual to fully audit their system.
It sucks because unless programming languages are as easy to read as English no one realistically knows 100% of what is happening in their system apart from a few really dedicated people in this world (like RMS).
I look forward to your response to see if you are a M$ shill or a genuine critic of modern-day FOSS (I won't be able to really tell otherwise).
It's core development culture was just taken over by marxists.
Merit-based contribution and free use philosophy is a thing of the past.
You're just using an old, problematic build. Linux itself, as a concept, is likely dead.
The user base will be more fragmented than ever, and this disunity will forever block uptake by normies.
You gotta remember that gamers are most families go-to "computer guy". If they use an OS, that's the one they'll install on their family's machines because they're familiar with it. Steam OS had the potential to bring millions of gamers onto the Linux platform and into it's (original) culture. Promoting uptake in the normie population, spurring the development of Linux as a serious Win/Mac competitor in the market place. Potentially even killing Windows and it's increasing user-experience gimping.
But no probs. You sound sound all set for the future. I hear old 1980s Commodore 64s still work too.

I'm running Linux now. Doesn't seem destroyed to me.
