I switched to Linux about 5 years ago (Mint), I did have some linux experience before but was windows user since 95. I will never-ever go back to Windows. Having said that - I use my linux box for browsing and programming (work). I think at this time Linux beats windows to death if one programs in non-MS languages. If that is your job I would not hesitate to switch, it can only get better. My kids also have mint or ubuntu on their laptops and do not complain.

I think at this time Linux beats windows to death if one programs in languages that are more portable than the Rocky Mountains.

A lot of people don't just browse though, they use software that have no good alternatives or they play games.
