Flip phones are horribly insecure and never get security updates.

Get a cheap phone that can run Lineage and is popular wnough that people will continue to make builds for it. Anything that you can't find on F-Droid, you probably don't need. (With the possible exception of Signal)

NO,

You don't get it.

You don't use a flip phone for anything but phone calls.

Get it now? A phone is for calling people and receiving calls. That's it. No Tweets, Facebook, texting, games, Voat or anything else. You want to do that, you go use a computer.

See, this gets you away from having your face in the phone all the time. But I know this is not possible for the average user.

I actually bought the first I-phone. I had some android after that, but it was way too expensive and I was already wasting too much time on it back in the day. So I got rid of it and went back to the flip. And I am happy I did.

Somebody gave me a cheap smart phone a few months ago. I played with it on WiFi for a little while but I finally decided that I didn't want it.

It sits in my drawer cold and unactivated. I'll probably throw it out if I can't find somebody who wants it.

You do know that SS7 and its succesor Diameter are fundamentaly broken, right?

There is no security if you make a POTS call; and SMS is only secure if you and your recipient are using something like Silence. Better yet, use Signal, XMPP+OMEMO, or Matrix+OLM. If you're not using encryption, you're fucked.

Dude, it is ALL backdoored and compromised. Everything you say or do in an electronic medium is available to anyone who wants it enough to work for it.

I just assume that everything I say on the internet or on my phone is monitored. I have assumed this since the early days of the internet. Anyone who wants to listen to my boring phone calls can go right ahead.

It's easier that way.

SMS ? I told you. Phones are for talking. That's it.

My only worry is that they are going to stop making flip phones and force me to use one of those over-engineered dopamine response mediating devices.

Luckily, there is always the Jitterbug.
