Not directly. Not right away. At least if we assume they'll run on electricity from power plants. Sure, they may have enough resources to guard those, but the transmission lines will be vulnerable. Shutting it all down will be an option for awhile. Even if that will kill hundreds of millions of us, it will be us in charge of the ashes.

The problem you face is that AI isn't a thing, it's an idea. And once it's out there you can't uninvent it ever again. So you don't just have to safe guard one computer running AI, but all possible future computers running AI. And you can't depend on scientists being careful either, as every script kiddy will be able do build some DIY AI with ease.

Not just script kiddies. Real AI is just too cool of an idea to not get massive funding, despite the obvious danger.

I would say if hundreds of millions need to be sacrificed we've already lost. You should read robopocalypse, its a fun read.

Not ideal, but if AI gains control of its power sources, options for stopping it are pretty limited. Communications with your fellow conspirators will have to be hand-carried, and if you've ever mentioned your concerns on electronics, it will be hunting you.

Point is, we'd be able to rebuild, but AI in control would be forever.
