Owning the monopoly so you can control the field of battle.

Its literally warfare on the public who pay its bills.

Words cannot describe the treason in our midst.

That was a bullshit charge against Microsoft then, and my guess is that it was punishment for something we'll never know about. In contrast, Facebook and Google cooperate with governments eagerly.

Also note that Apple still has a reputation for privacy and not eagerly cooperating with dragnet operations, however undeserved that is. Like Microsoft then, Apple is in the business of making devices for customers, rather than in re-displaying public data and cashing in on the results.

Google was fined over a bullshit charge as well, with regards to "search" in Europe.

Europe stocking up on cash to prolong the inevitable defeat in the EU-US trade war. They are gonna suck big companies dry, mark my words.

My guess is wanting to play ball with the NSA. That was back in a time when software made by microsoft worked (lets not talk about Windows ME) and wasn't constantly collecting your data.

well it make sense that google would sell data to make money, it is just a server that collects info to show you

Because technically it's already been broken up and under alphabet. Though, it's all just name games.

Alphabet, ironic, isnt it?

It has always been alphabet when you factor in all the three letter agencies who have their hands down Google's pants.

That is the thing they are not broken up, what is the difference between divisions under a company and companies under a parent. as long as they are all under the same accounting structure it is just titles on the columns with no change.

They have. Note that the "IE bundling" thing was an EU ruling, not a US one.

Same thing happened to Google with search. It's also a bullshit case just like the Microsoft one.

Basically, when you search for a product to buy - Google only gives you results from stores. The ruling is - they have to also give results for other search engines where you can search for that product.

That doesn't justify their dominance in email, smart phones, web video, maps, and others.. all which link back to their search engine which build a profile on you. They have a monopoly and will be the first megacorporation if the governments continues to not do their jobs. Maybe google has blackmail on everyone. At the very minimum, a new account should have maximum privacy settings. Getting your data raped from you should be opt in. These practices make me feel distain towards new technology and makes me lose faith in laws and the government system. There are laws that put pot smokers in jail but not laws regulating dominating systems that can literally ruin lives and businesses.

Email? Maybe for "free" users, but where it counts / where the money is (corporate / companies) - Microsoft is king.

Smart phones - they don't dominate. iPhone dominate. Android is the "lower end alternative". Not to mention that Google doesn't actually create the phones.

They dominate some web video - cat videos and lectures. But other web videos are dominated by other companies: streaming by twitch, movies by Netflix, tv series by Hulu, and paid content by Amazon and Apple. And even where they do dominate - there are viable alternatives.

Maps? No. They only dominate maps on Android. Apple users use their own maps. On PC, Microsoft has itps own as well (less popular, but available).

The only market they dominate is search.

Monopoly? On search - but certainly not in the other fields you mentioned.

At the very minimum, a new account should have maximum privacy settings.

It's a "free" product. You pay with your data. Don't want to pay with your data? Pay with your money. You can't expect to receive a service without paying

Getting your data raped from you should be opt in

It is. You opt in when you choose the free version of their products. You can always choose to pay them for the service they provide with your money. Why don't you?

I was wondering this exact thing the other day. Search, Android, Android Market place making a Google account NESSISSARY to use all of their services which are frighteningly on the verge of obsequiousnes... Their slimy tentacles are in everything and show no signs of stopping. With Android becoming so common place to the point of threatening windows how have they not been broken up yet?

Microsoft hasn't been broken up either. Just fined.

And Google has been fined a LOT because of search: https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/27/google-fined-e2-42bn-for-eu-antitrust-violations-over-shopping-searches/

Google and Apple are the false dichotomy of the tech world. They are the Republicans and Democrats of the NSA wiretap industry. You can choose one or the other, but they both work for the same boss.

Google has lobbyists. Any decision made by any member of Congress is for sale. You just have to have the money to buy it.
