I use my pc on a 4k tv in the lounge room and there is a huge difference between 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080p and 2160p. If I were using a handheld device like a tablet or phone it wouldn't make any difference whatsoever but when watching them on a 4k tv you can see the picture being stretched out which makes it look shitty as at the lower definitions.
Did you ever take into consideration that LCD display's NATIVE RESOLUTION? Nearly all other resolutions except the one it is optimized for will look like shit.
Yes and sadly while the native resolution of my 4k tv is 1080p it looks very badly stretched out and the same is true when I force it to run at 4k though everything is tiny as fuck to boot. As such I run the tv at 1680 x 1050 which I have to admit is still very slightly stretched vertically but only if I'm being a nit picking faggot about it. It's almost imperceptible and vlc plays the movies perfectly at that resolution anyway. Even at 1680 x 1050 though there's an absurd difference in the picture quality between 480p, 576p, 720p and 1080p. There's no real noticeable difference in 2160p even when running at 4k though but I imagine there would be on an 8k tv so I make sure to pirate everything in the highest quality I can in case I upgrade my tv in the future.
