Why bother with Blu-rays where you need an expensive player AND expensive software to play them, or need to rip the disks before you can even start watching? This is one of the prime cases of piracy being superior in every way.

Because sheep need the best quality of entertainment to obtain the euphoria of excitement that only comes about when reality is denied.

The players came way down in price recently, as have the discs. We've passed the "early adopter" phase and people weren't snapping them up at $300 per player, so you can now find them on sale for $100.

Never mind that regular bluray is sufficiently beautiful, and you're really not going to notice the difference between 1080p and 4K unless you're specifically looking for it.

On the PC side, an internal Blue-ray burner costs about $50. About the same price for a consumer player. Not really worth the time ripping a 100GB disk or downloading. Though, BR is nice for media backups.

For a lot of people they don't have the bandwidth to pirate and a lot of subscription services might not have the movie they want. A lot of people outside of the cities are still waiting for ADSL ports or might only have a 10-15mbs cable connection, LTE is probably more common than fast home internet. Some people who had x box ones reported having to drive to town if there was a big update. So I can't imagine them waiting for a pirated copy of a film when the blu-ray is instant.

I only have a 10mb/s Internet connection because it's the cheapest I could find. I still pirate whatever I wish because there is very little in this world that a person needs right this God damned second. Whether I watch a movie now or in a day or two doesn't fucking matter.
