I was about to look at buying a new video card and monitor. Might just wait a bit.

Watch AMD too. Sometimes companies leak a product that won't be out for a while to try and spoil their competitor's products. They all do it, Intel, AMD, and Nvidia. But it's been a long time since we've seen a new AMD GPU and it's about time.

I think right now is a really bad time to buy, the GPUs that are out have been out for a while, we're about to shrink from 14nm/16nm, and the prices are still insane for what you're getting. I think waiting until this fall is a good idea, if you can make it.

Every time is a bad time to buy in the last few years. I would prefer AMD due to FreeSync and my hope is maybe they drop something new and Vega prices drop (or the new thing is about the same price but better performance). I need to replace my r9 390 soon. The i7 4790K I have will keep going for a while longer waiting for Zen2.

There is no way AMD will release something competitive with the 1180. They're so far behind. And, if they do, it will consume like 450W. I would love to see AMD competitive, but they aren't right now. Doing great work on CPUs, but just not there with the GPUs.

Thirteen teraflops is perfect for Uhd gaming at high frame rates, while their tensor cores add real time ray tracing and a host of other possibilities including advanced physics and AI. The video game Metro: Exodus will be among the first to incorporate real time ray traced lighting and is being released around the same time as the Ampere video card. Note that adding real time ray traced lighting can not only produce better lighting, but AI that is extremely easy to program and improve upon where characters act much more naturally as if they recognize each other and the player. Using eye-tracking they can even look you in the eye and recognize anything you are staring at.

All I want for Christmas is a companion AI that isn't dumb as a stump.

The arithmetic accelerators and tensor cores going into everything will empower an amazing range of low level AI, while the program and cloud computing can add all the rest anyone could want. Basically, tiny AI circuits can easily imitate rudimentary things like leaves blowing in the wind, or people doing Three Stooges slapstick. The programmer and cloud AI can take care of the rest. If you add ray tracing AI and eye tracking, your companion can seem almost as human as your friends and to rapidly adapt themselves to your personal preferences.

how hard is to produce a low wattage but high producing video card ?

Very, if you want performance to keep going up. Just like CPU, every time they decrease the transistor size they increase the count per die and they also add more memory and other electronics to run things. If you want something that performs like the original GeForce/Radeon cards then you have a huge power savings in the cards out today since that is really below the bottom end of current cards.

again, bummer :( can you tell me why the microprocessor cant handle visuals and and other logical stuff in this age of multi-core CPU's? sorry but i'm not an expert in computers that's why i ask

Quantum physics hard. Literally.
