"Mr. Chan, are the results from the new expression recognition cameras ready?"

"Yes sir."

"Well?"

"It appears that squinting is at an all time high."

What could possibly go wrong?

"Oh now we have a robot like population trained to not show any sign of emotion whatsoever because they fear the party's all seeing eye since childhood"

It's obviously more for conditioning behavior rather than improving education.

Stress is bad for learning.

It's going to fail all over the place, just like picture cameras. Error: "Did someone squint?"

At least they're being honest about it. We have camera's all around us in Israel. They would never disclose that they were doing this, even though we all suspect it.

We have cameras everywhere in the US: Every corner of every intersection AT LEAST. I'm pretty sure they're too incompetent to monitor even 1% of them. Every time some random crime happens law enforcement ask anyone who has any information to please call them. They are 100% clueless how to get video from these cameras assuming they actually record.

Those cameras on stop lights were actually first installed to monitor speeding, as it also has a speed monitor on it. Or it would also notify them if the person would run through a red light. Here in the Minnesota, it was actually outlawed. They were all installed on lights, but they can't actually use them. So now they are rigged to flash when sirens are around/or when a cop/ambulance is going to pass through.

I'm pretty sure they're not, because I've been to traffic control centers where they do just that. And they do actually record. They are not, however, being currently used to their full capability.

Welcome on Voat. You are awesome for being just who YOU are. Always speak your mind and be truthful to your word. It's all about the daath :) I love Chabad and the Rebbe, though my foreskin is intact and I am a Viking.

Welcome aboard.

Most sufficiently industrialized, modern societies now have a lot of persistent surveillance in place. The issue is how it is used. While it may be abused in many places, China stands alone in how it is now grading its citizens and tying their rights to their behavior. That they are extending this into their children’s schools is really sad. It’s like a really unbelievable dystopian 1930s sci-fi pulp fiction, but it is really happening.

Everything China is doing is or will be done here. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely everyone.

I think it would be more accurate to state that China stands alone in its openness about those practices. To them maybe it's not seen as a bad thing so they can be open about it, whereas it's possible the same if not worse things take place in other parts of the world yet they're not disclosed because people would be in uproar for a day or two and then move on to being mad about the next stupid thing their officials were doing to them. As a citizen I'm more concerned about the things that are being done in secret--the things the officials deem too sensitive to talk to the public about.

Holy shit Orwell was right! This is straight out of fucking 1984 with the telescreen monitoring your facial expressions for signs of dissent. Power is an end not a means to an end. China is litterally Orwell's totalitarian dystopia as I believe the USA is Huxley's.

Top notch, always liked that pic although I have yet to read A Brave New World. I finished 1984 about a month ago and the final chapters of Winston's story at the end sent shivers down my spine.
