Ditto here, but it's encrypted and I am bandwidth challenged at home, and do all my file transfers at the office, just because of what a stubborn shit I am. I HATE AT&T and Cox cable, and those are my only options where I bought this house, damn it! Tethering off the work phone works fine for what I do here, though. SSH is not all that bandwidth intensive... although my shenanigans on this site and others add up pretty significantly.

Soon enough, I'll be getting stupid DSL again, though - as Ma thinks she NEEDS a land line, so I might as well.

Man, speaking of, her POD just arrived, and we offloaded probably a literal ton of potted plants. The cat had a great time smelling everything in there and wiping her face on all the things. I guess she needs to let Ma's cats preemptively know that all this stuff is hers now!

Hmm... come to think of it, only most of the data on those drives are in the cloud. The stuff I've added has not been backed up aside from to portable small USB drives, but those hardly count, as they're nowhere near complete, but just used for convenience. I need to redo the whole mess once I have real bandwidth to the house, and I kind of look forward to doing so. Speaking of, if you're looking for obscure movie or TV rips, I... uh... might know where to find them for you.

This is going to sound so arrogant...

LOL Please read this with the best reading possible?

Umm... I actually paid FairPoint to get DSL. Except, I covered the purchase price of a new DSLAM and the new copper to my road and to my home. I had to get 1/2 the neighbors to agree to sign up (all of them but one did), and I had to pay those costs. They covered the installation cost for the DSLAM and the new line.

Why DSL? Because fiber can't be bent beyond 30 degrees and copper is regulated by the PUC - meaning that I can actually use any service provider I want in the State of Maine. (You may have similar protections where you live.) Fiber has no such protection and cable has even less. I got mad at FairPoint once and switched to GWI - and they had to provision the service at cost to GWI, it's the law.

So, I have DSL and a business-class connection. They actually still charge me the same amount as they do for the home service, but they keep upgrading my speed. I get 15 down and the only crappy part is that I get 1.25 up - which makes uploading video a bitch. I have two distinct line and they both get adequate throughput.

And, yes, I realize most folks can't just pay their TelCo to put in DSL. I know, it makes me sound a bit snobby - but I only had satellite as point-to-point wireless was very, very sketchy. So, something had to be done and I bit the bullet and had the work done.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I got bonded ISDN to a house just because. That was kind of a long time ago. Then we moved, and I got a T1 line because it made sense as a business expense.

But here, the stupid laws protect businesses and not consumers. They think that since we have a 'choice' of DSL or SUPER SHITTY cable, that's not a monopoly. Idunno; fuck Los Angeles right in the pussy. Oh well... at least our property values keep going up insanely, so I figure on holding on to the place until I can walk away with a cool million in cash. Hopefully the dollar is still worth something by that point...
