We did NOT win shit here:

When a company decides to make sudden and unpopular changes it hires an "interim" CEO to do the dirty work. They take all the heat and stick around just long enough to implement new policy and fire people.

Then the "interim" CEO leaves suddenly, with a bag of cash and disappears. The community feels victorious. Yay! We win! They will now be more likely to accept the new management that are all still ass-hats, but less so than the "interim" CEO they dubbed Hitler. And after some kind of outreach bologna the storm settles and tomorrow is a new day.

Mission accomplished.

If you're on voat, you've won. If you stay on reddit, you have Stockholm Syndrome.

That being said, there are some subreddits I will probably still check out, until the community here for them is more built up, but as far as the other place is concerned not the frontpage, not /r/all not /r/iama ...

I'm still using my porn alt on Reddit. As for the subreddits, I'm on the ropes. I'm a lurker first, commenter second. I never actively participated in any individual community, but I was still interested in their content. Once Voat hits critical mass, I'll be lurking here full time.

I'm still waiting to see how /r/iama turns out. The fact that the mods wrested control away from the admins is a good sign, since it means the admins can't meddle too much with it. Let's see if the current status quo changes.

Wanna help build a community up? Come to /v/tattoos!

Okay, shameless plug done, and on some levels I agree with you. However, rather than stick around on reddit for the smaller subs, I've kinda gone cold turkey. Sucks a bit (for instance /v/eve is nowhere near active as /r/eve), but it has given me time to play around here and find new communities.

If you're on voat, you've won. If you stay on reddit, you have Stockholm Syndrome.

At the moment, I'm using both. There are a lot of idiots over at reddit, but there are also a lot of people over there in the niche communities who elected to stay because of other reasons. Some didn't like Voat's reputation - harboring /r/fatpeoplehate and the child porn incident are the two biggest that come to mind. Some didn't like how unreliable the site was when reddit was having trouble (I was in that camp until recently). Some are going so far as to call for Voat's demise because reddit is "getting its shit together".

I think time is really the only thing that'll settle the issue on whether Voat is here to stay or not. Reddit has a lot of idiots over there, but my front page on Voat is populated by people posting about how this site isn't like Reddit and how crappy Ellen Pao was. I'd love to see where Voat and Reddit are in three months from now. For now, though, I'll be bouncing between both sites until the dust settles and one clearly has the stronger community.

Pretty much.

On the other hand, I think the "Reddit Revolt" pushed up the time table. We would have seen far more groundwork laid otherwise.

Doesn't matter. I still prefer Voat and left Reddit behind long ago.

/u/donutpeach, According to the Board Member currently conducting an IAMA, your claim is not valid. I left Reddit for a lot of reasons, and I really like Voat, so I plan to be around for a while. I am NOT a Reddit champion, nor do I subscribe to their paradigm of content censorship, but you're promoting a conspiracy theory that has no basis in fact.

  • She's not "leaving with a bag of cash", she'll be working at Reddit in a lesser capacity

  • The board's published reason for replacing her is a disagreement between the amount of user growth to be expected in 6 months (this is a no-brainer, obviously).

  • It's still too early to tell whether there will be an improvement to the overall community, especially w.r.t. the unresolved issues (censorship of content, mod support, etc)

  • The IAMA is an interesting read, I recommend having a go at it. Even if you disagree, it's good to know what they're trying to promote.

It's actually more interesting to me that she "resigned" on Friday afternoon, the nationally-famous time for massive news-dumps and attempts to hide major breaking news.

If you think that Pao did not get paid for doing the dirty work that the investors wanted done you are crazy. This was the plan all along and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. This is not the first time someone was hired to be the scapegoat.

Disagreement between the amount of user growth to be expected? While she was in charge there has been 2 massive loads of people jumping ship. If I replaced someone in a company that had caused so much turmoil, I would have absolutely 0 use for them in any facet of the job. I don't care she stepped down to janitor. She was highly compensated for being hated. Hell, can you blame her? She was already hated by so many people that her public image really could not decrease much more. She is a vile woman but was ultimately just the messenger for the people making the decisions (investors).

Still to early to tell whether there will be censorship improvement? Do you really think that they are going to UNshadowban people that mods disagreed with? Do you think all of their censored subs are going to be back online? Do you think this fixes the issue of power hungry mods? If so, you are crazy.

IAMA- Fuck AMA's and IAMA's. Years ago they were awesome. They were a way for people to interact with the community directly. Now it is a PR stunt. I cannot believe that people read that shit. Cherry picked questions, evading any important questions and clearly just plugging whatever product/movie/idea/book/etc that they are trying to push.

TL;DR If you really think that this changes anything, please go back to reddit and send me a PM when you come back next month.

The only reason she is stepping down is because of a disagreement about growth? What does that even mean? I would like to get 200,000 new users at the site says person A. Well I would like 250,000 new users replies person B. Clearly you two have different opinions said a random third person one of you must no longer work in your original capacity.

In a positive way. As much as she and they try to claim the revolt has nothing to do with her departure, she has driven users away at every opportunity which is bad for the company. This also allows Voat to continue to build for the eventual next implosion, as reddit was sliding downhill long before this most recent catastrophe, so hopefully the next round will simply wind up with a seamless migration.

It's interesting to note that today was the "don't use reddit at all until Pao is gone" day, so I wonder if they saw substantial drops in metrics and told her to pack her bags.

I doubt Chairman Pao's resignation had anything to do with users abstinance. We are still a drop in the bucket compared to reddit.

However, the hordes of reddit won't migrate here for a while. It gives us a while to settle in and make ourselves at home before the eventual next reddit blunder.

I'm sure it will be up by the time I finish posting this but THIS announcement made the front of VOAT before it did on Reddit (at least when I checked). Crazy to see. Looks like VOAT is already ahead of reddit now.
