These are equivalent negotiations, except only one involves subverting the democratic process by adding something after people voted on it.

Your concerns about "taking away a tool" are silly and unfounded.

It's never total gridlock. It's a pendulum that swings back and forth in an ever widening path, reaching further into the extremes. Liberals and conservatives take turns getting fucked over. Cumulatively, over the longer term, everyone is getting fucked over harder and harder.
