I got one Win 8 partition because my girlfriend doesn't get linux.

Linux everything fucking else. Won't get you past Intel's BS but it'll get you past MS's BS.

Win7 for certain games and work with various versions of linux on different machines. Still haven't found a really good version of linux yet.

They seem to range from broken, to wonky, to somewhat ok if you don't mind un-fucking it every time you want to do more than browse the internet. And now there's some sort of SJW push to censor and mess with certain distros and shit.

Still, fuck microsoft.

Mint has been pretty stable and kind to me in the time I've used it, although it feels kind of limited in comparison to some other distros.

Might be where to look if you want something that just works and aren't concerned with deep customization and whatnot.

I have to admit that i had to learn linux (arch, to be specific) through and through to make most stuff work. Yeah few games don't run, but everything else works (okay some programs which rely on active microsoft/windows ports to RUN the program don't work). It just takes massive initial time.

That's why i don't bother with linux recommendation anymore. Nobody wants to learn.

kubuntu is quite good, especially for people who want the windows experience without Microsoft's hand up their ass.

[–] RollinDaGrassTyson 1 points 2 points (+3|-1) ago

If your measure of how "good" a linux version is how much of a Windows clone it can be, then you will never find a "good" linux distro. Just give up the Windows mentality.

I had a similar problem with spontaneous video purchases from Fandango.

[–] Jizzmaster3000 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Which distro would you recommend?

[–] Fun_Crusher_XL 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

If you want the least amount of setup: Mint.

If you want the most: Arch.

I'm still reading the EUL for windows 95. On page 9,999,999,999,999,999,999,002,0001,100,050,320,010,045,002 part B 607.201.506 (a) 531.465.667.997 reads "if you ever have used or have thought of using a microsoft product you agree to give microsoft the soul of your first born. You are also bound to accept any and all updates microsoft see's fit at cost to be borne by the user at a cost set by microsoft that may change as microsoft see fit". Trust me you don't want to know about subtitle part C.

Stop allowing them to use the word upgrade

[–] EatDaP00P00 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Fuck Microsoft. Moved to Linux 5 years ago and haven't looked back. You can have that vulnerable, overloaded piece of shit OS.

[–] InterDigitated 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago

my windows keeps failing to upgrade from windows 10 to windows 10 and I can't stop it from retrying over and over

DAT H1-B DIVERSITY, YO. How many times is Microsoft going to bork a major Win10 update because Pajeet can't program? Here's to all of (((their))) replacement plans being this comically fraught with errors.

[–] i_scream_trucks 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Man from the looks of things the pajeets have been outsourced to AI.... just look at their help forums.

[–] badruns 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Mine has been doing this for the "Fall creators update" for months, until this week it wasn't able to rollback from the update, continuous boot loops. Tried many times over the months to fix it, none of the solutions worked for me though. Had to pull my data off and format the drive entirely.

[–] RUSTYMILL 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

I have this exact same problem

[–] weezkitty 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Remove W10 and install an OS that actually works. Problem solved

[–] InterDigitated 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

I wouldn't have windows if it weren't for a few games I use.
This machine is dual booted, and all my other computers run linux exclusively.

Windows fucks up the most by far. However, I did disable shit like cortana. I would not be surprised if that made it even less stable by design.

[–] gattaca 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago  (edited ago)

get familliar with VMWare or virtualbox. Run a windows 7 vm for the shit that you must run windows for. everything else linux.

i invested in a high end I7 octo server, stuffed it full of ram and hard drives and run ESX bare metal. everything runs on that and I RTP into any windows machines i need to access. Nice thing with ESX is you can assign hardware like graphics cards to specific virtual machines, so ive got 4 GPU cards stuffed in the box as well. this way i can water cool the whole thing and put it in sound proof area of the house, no computer noise in my office at all. totally silent.

[–] Ialwayssaythis 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Mannn that's cool as fuck. I only kinda understand what the fuck you are talking about but it sounds ds cool. I cold swap hdd:s because dual boot is a pain in the ass.

[–] N0F4TCH1X 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Easy just need 20 000$, seriously though, looks like a very nice setup but wayy above my budget and skill level :(

[–] skidmark-steve 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

I can't imagine how annoying it would be if this computer spent an hour or two at random installing new Windows builds, during which time I can't actually use the computer! Thankfully I use Debian, which installs updates when and only when I say. They don't block the computer either. I can continue using it while it works, and when the update is done, it doesn't take any longer than usual to shut down or start up again.

The funniest thing on Windows is when you think you're done applying updates and you go to shut down... and it then spends five minutes working on them before actually doing so.

I apologize for the typo. You should be your in the title. I don't normally use kangspeak.
