Windows 10 is the worst OS ive ever used. Even worse than more primitive operating systems because at least back then expectations were lower. But everything microsuck has done since windows 7 has been fucking garbage being more about marketing than about technology.

You're too young to remember Windows ME.

ME was a train wreck, but at least the interface wasn't this bad.

Im 40. I was doing telephone tech support when ME first came out. I was there man. I saw it all.

They had a pretty consistent run of "good OS, bad OS, good OS, bad OS" for a while. The problem is that they went straight from 8 to 10; 9 probably would have been decent.

Came here to say precisely that.

I have no idea why they don't just make a new, improved version of Windows 7, which is what people actually want.

They keep pushing all these new redesign concepts which nobody asked for and nobody wants.

Because they are assholes.

I have two theories, one is conspirative.

The first one is they want/need to push a unified touch-screen and keyboard-mouse interface paradigm. They're trying to do it with the UWP but of course nobody could give less of a shit about it. The problem is Win32/GDI is fundamentally broken for touch-based applications.

The conspiracy is that they want a walled garden not unlike iOS. They know they can't do it with Windows 7 and the previous lines of OSs. Eventually they will dump Win32 and you won't be able to (legally) do shit about it because "Oops, autoupdates!"

It's not about what people want. It's about what MS wants.

On the technical side it’s got some good things, but is loaded down with advertisements and built in spyware. Not to mention you’re playing Russian roulette every time it says it has an update. The only thing I still use windows for is gaming, beyond that Microsoft has completely lost my trust.

I disabled auto-updates and everything because I use it for gaming, and suddenly one day my computer is slow as shit and stuttering in games. Lo and behold windows had auto-downloaded the spectre/malware fix and even disabling it didn't fix things.

Yeah. The new start menu is garbage. Getting ads when you search for programs is awful. All they had to do was copy the Linux style system of depositories like Git, but put it in a GUI interface and they'd be fine.

They did copy the linux style distribution system. They just mutated it into a hideous prostitute with to much make up and perfume.

Does this mean Microsoft has stopped "force upgrading" people's machines to 10?

They revoked my win 7 license about 6 months ago, after I kept refusing the update to 10. Now it shows as a pirated copy, so I just switch between that and another ssd with linux on it.

They revoked my win 7 license

What? Can you prove that? It doesn't work that way until you purchased your license on the grey market (I've done that) like from a third world reseller. It violates the license agreement and eventually it catches up to you and they revoke the license. If it's a legit license you would have the physical paperwork and would be able to get it back form Microsoft.

yeah big big problem is that, windows 10 force to update, user cant cancel update on its own, that annoys users

This Windows 10 is worse than Windows Me. I now have daily freezes, Sound that suddenly is gone, broken DRM that breaks other software packages....

Windows 10 was put on puberty blockers until it figures out what it want's to be.

I recently learned a trick regarding Windows 10 and its forced updates: set the network connection to "metered".

That will prevent Windows from downloading and installing any updates while still allowing normal internet access. So far it seems to be working, but it's just a matter of time before Microsoft puts an end to that also.

And for those wondering: the Win10 machine was not mine and Win10 was specifically requested by the owner since the owner is already used to Win10. And besides... the machine is so new that the Win7 version I have probably wouldn't have been able to detect the new components and therefore refused to install.

They made a patch not too long ago as a "security update" which bypassed even metered connections. I don't know how much trouble m$ got into for that because I know several people who got >$200 bills because it went way over their cap.

The praise for Apple at the end of the article is unfounded. 10.12 was bad, 10.13 is complete garbage, especially if you have anything but the newest Mac.

Win10 is utter, utter shit. From a GUI and design standpoint it is shit. From a "teach my mother" standpoint it is shit. I still use Win7 as my windows platform and I have no plans of ever changing until something decent is released. I have little hope for that. (There was an interview from win10 programmers revealing how disfunctional its development was, and how it is probably the least efficient mass of code on the planet--I wish I had bookmarked it.)
