I think voat's rules about limited upvoting and not being able to downvote until you've contributed will filter out a lot of the fucktards

Thanks, I'm new and didnt know. I tried downvoting to see if you were messing with me :p You weren't! Voat had a nice little msg slide down. I like the ux/ui, still clicking around.

On the other hand, lurkers can't silently downvote anything so we have to shitpost and circlejerk too now :(

I'm not sure yet. While I love voting stuff, this site is very much a clone of Reddit and without some underlying differences it would just turn into Reddit over time, so hopefully things like the voting restriction are enough.

I like the fact that this makes having multiple accounts for the purpose of upgoats and down goats for the most part useless

I was against it at first, and still think it needs to be adjusted a little, especially the 100 ccp to downvote is too harsh, at least lower it to half or lower because it was so frustrating to not be able to have any input it nearly drove me away, but after I got over the hurdle, I do like it a little. However, like I said, it needs to be lowered a bit, because it really is too intimidating for new users.

The thing is that new users need to learn the Voat culture. The limit as it is makes people hang out long enough to bit use the down Voat as a disagree button. The culture is what reddit lost and it is important to protect the culture here to keep it from being toxic.

I think it's fine; it requires you to spend some time on the site (for most people) and be active before you can express your disapproval of content or attitude. It keeps the downvote valuable instead of a kneejerk "I don't like your opinion" option that it was on reddit, similarly it makes brigading much harder.
