Every few years I was ok with plonking a few hundred bucks for their latest OS. Sometimes you just can't do anything without Windows - like flashing ROMS or playing Shoot-The-Mans on the Internet.
But Steam got better and better, and as if to intentionally push me away, Windows got worser and worser.
They used 46% of my bandwidth for a month when I was testing - to send my data to god knows where, hundreds of places. Even using the cleaners and disablers, there was still a lot of un-accounted for traffic.
But this takes the cake... I updated a 5 year old motherboard, and Windows won't migrate. It runs fine, but when I went through the stupid "confirmation/activation" process they INTENTIONALLY asked me a trick question and shut me down.
"How many computers have you installed this on?"
I answered 3, because that is how many times I have upgraded my motherboard. I didn't mean that I had it on more than one computer at a time, ever. Nonetheless, I can't activate it.
Even if I could, they will no longer update me. Why? Because they LIE and pretend the newer CPU can only be handled securely by their new OS, Windows 10. Of course that flies in the face of everything they haven't disclosed to us over the years and none of their OSes can be considered safe under any circumstances. So it's just a ploy to force people to buy their latest spyware.
I am SO FUCKING DONE. Downloading SteamOS in the background.
