I don't get any spam in my main inbox. My spam folder gets some, but that's it. I'm very impressed by how well Gmail does.

That's my experience as well; this is something they've been doing right for a long time now. The odd ones that do slip through, I flag with the spam button.

If I have learned anything, you can still get pregnant with those odds.

If I'm only receiving 0.1% of the spam sent to me there is a hell of a lot of spam out there.

In 2012, there were ~144.8 billion emails sent per day. It was estimated that ~70% was spam. That's 101.4 billion spam emails per day.

Now in 2015, email traffic has hit ~205.6 billion emails per day and spam estimates are higher. Being conservative and saying spam rates are ~80% now (I've seen reports saying 85-97%) that means there are 164.5 billion spam email sent per day, more than total email traffic in 2012.

Yeah. It hurts my head trying to wrap my brain around the amount of spam that is out there, but caught.

Nevermind Google still sells their gmail.com email addresses to advertisers. I've set up totally unused accounts on gmail before only to have it start receiving spam.

I don't buy it: I gets between 50 and 100 gmail spam every day and there is no way that I would be getting 50000 spam normally. Gmail does allow a lot of spam and this is just marketing BS!

no clue, but it is gmail specific since my work, provider and iCloud accounts (which I use way more than the gmail account) get at most 1-2per month. Edit: actually, a lot of the spam is from France addresses, may be gmail spam filters do not get applied to .fr mails?

I like how between the lines, the article is mostly about innovative technologies using neural networks. My guess is that the author started with that as a base and was like "ah crap, now I need to make sure people actually want to read my article"

I never get spam to my gmail accounts. Their SPAM filtering is actually fantastic.
