I like the illusion of control the options give you. They let you control whether or not they use what they track you doing to personalize ads, but you can’t tell them to not track you.

I know they would. The difference is there would be a big public uproar when everyone else found out they had been tracking users against their will. With these options they give less attentive people the warm feeling that somehow they’re not being tracked, but there won’t be a big leak about their tracking later.

You think they wouldn't track you, even if you checked a box saying "Don't track me" ?
