Patch it. Mark performance change. Join Class Action Lawsuit. Re-install OS without patch. Claim your payout and move on. Hell patch it in a VM and take note of the results.

You can continue to go down your path by all means, but I rather get something out of it personally. I mean I paid for the hardware, and it is now defective due to a manufacturing/design defect, I want to be reimbursed for it.

I heard class action lawsuit payouts tend to be pretty small (per individual). It's the lawyers who make the money off those.

Given the lack of consumer protection in the USA, class action lawsuits are basically the only option to punish big companies for their misdeeds.

That does not persuade my desire for justice in this case. I will seek satisfaction, even if that comes in the form of my name on a class action against a dirty corporate citizen.

thats why you dont sue under a group action.

ill take my statutory right to an equivalent replacement thanks. 'oh but class action law...' 'bitch please, im not part of that, i just want my laptop replaced' 'we are currently negot' 'no... please regard australian consumer law. it doesnt matter how many people are suing you, you are legally bound to replace the machine you cripped with a manufacturing fault. And this machine cost me $1800'

That depends on how it is structured. Also depends on if you join the suit with or without your own lawyer. I have had one that was literally .01 cents. No joke. They spent more to mail the damn check. I have had another that was more significant in the thousands range (amazon book scandal).
