It’s not yet clear if AMD processors are quite as vulnerable.

They aren't at all. Shills are pushing the same patch to AMD that would degrade performace even though it's not needed. I just finished upgrading all my computers to AMD CPUs. In hindsight, it was a smart move.

The performance killing patch is for Meltdown, and Meltdown only affects Intel. Spectre is another exploit, not as severe, but still very bad, and it affects Intel, ARM, AMD, and POWER. Spectre affects a lot of CPUs, Meltdown only seems to be Intel. And Meltdown is the one that's killing performance if it's to be fixed.
