Pretty safe to say if Comcast or any large market dominant company wants the government to do something its is only to serve the company. And the government should do the opposite.

How about the government breaks up the corporations so competition can take place, and stays the fuck out of regulating the internet.

Agreed. The ISPs are looking more like Ma Bell every day.

The problem is that a lot of the internet (that is, a vast majority of the last mile infrastructure) was built on the guarantee of a government-granted local monopoly, and huge grants/incentives were provided to fund the construction. Because of the way utility corridors and telecomm/cable infrastructure work, you can pretty much only have one or two distribution systems in place (like POTS telephone and cable) so you'll never see competition for market areas or individual customers.

So what you're saying is that you want the government (that is, US) to have paid private companies to build most of the internet, then to just give it to them with no strings attached.

Sure you might break the companies up, but the same shareholders will still own them, and they will never compete with each other for any given customer.

The first part of your statement is correct and goes for any organization asking the government to do anything. Everyone always asks for things out of self-interest. This includes not only for-profit corporations but everyone else. Whether you consider that good or bad is going to depend heavily on your own self-interests in relation to the organization's self-interests.

The second part doesn't follow at all. Just because people petition the government to protect or enhance their interests does not ipso facto make the requested government action bad.

Comcast asks the FCC to prohibit states from enforcing net neutrality | Ars Technica

"Comcast told Pai's staff that the FCC could adopt net neutrality rules using its other authority—but the FCC tried that in 2010, and this previous attempt at enforcing net neutrality rules was struck down in court.", "The FCC has to ask the public for comment on proposed changes, but Pai's net neutrality proposal did not ask for input on preempting state net neutrality laws."

'Such a move would essentially set up a "voluntary" net neutrality system in which ISPs would face no rules and would choose whether to make net neutrality commitments. ', " Pai's final proposal for rolling back net neutrality rules could be announced later this month and voted on at the FCC's December 14 meeting.", "Comcast met with Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai's staff this week in an attempt to prevent states from issuing net neutrality rules."
