Anyone who uses cortana doesn't care about privacy

The people I've talked to aren't aware of the extent of the data being collected.

My room mate was looking for a new car. I started getting car ads on my devices.

You can block Cortana and all the other spying in Windows, but it's kind of a pain in the ass to do.

There aren't any capable privacy-friendly voice assistants yet. Mycroft is one to watch, but it's early days yet. Problem is that only big data companies have the resources to create them right now, and big data companies tend to not care about privacy.

"Skype" and "private" don't belong together. The second Skype was purchased, nothing on Skype was safe. Probably sooner, but definitely not post-acquisition.

Check out signal by open whisper systems. open source app for android, ios, and windows that supports voip calls, video calls, and text. Only downside is you need a valid phone number

Both were already listening in separately. Now they just have a merged "product" to do it openly.

Is anyone surprised? One of the many reasons I'm switching development from MS Stack to C++ and Python. At least im not bogged down with licenses and bullshit. Plus I don't need 35GB of space for the god damn dev environment

I have a PI running Raspian and I'm impressed with its out of the box functionality. But they don't have a Visual studio ide yet. Development is still a very disjointed process.

the raspberry pi isnt really mean for heavy dev task. its even overpowered by cheap phones and 10-15 year old computers. if you want a linux dev environment just take a spare computer and install debian on it. if you really need a windows only application then there is wine but wine doesnt work on the pi because it doesnt have an x86 processor.

I know, only those glow in the dark niggers write in Python. God's true children write their own language and make their own OS!

Meh... real devs just run Virtual Machines and use KMS Pico to register their winderp VMs.

Yeah, I've done this before. I find it is easier to spin up a Linux machine in a VM over having to allocate 60GB+ of space for a Win machine. Plus Win requires more power to run, and locks up a lot.

Python is for niggers

I come from a QT/C++ background on the Linux side. So that is what I'm staying with. Also I find C++ to be a more fluid language, which is way more feature rich than Python. However, Python is easier to learn, but that comes at a price

I can't wait until the technology advances enough to implement it completely on-premises. The only reason voice assistants are privacy nightmares is because only big data companies have the resources to develop and support them. The technology itself is exciting otherwise.

Skype is part of prism so if you expect to have private conversations there you're being very mislead

  1. Press Windows key + r
  2. Type "gpedit.msc"
  3. Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Search
  4. Find "Allow Cortana"
  5. Right click -> edit -> disable
  6. Kill off cortana in task manager
  7. ????????????
  8. Profit

Just picked up a used dell 990 with w 10 and after an hour of clicking to stop the spy shit I reboot and see a lot of crap is back, Then while installing firefox a window pops up telling me time is running out. Upgrade w 10 now .
