This is why "alternative platforms" are stupid if regular, everyday people don't join.

Meanwhile self-segregation is letting the mainstream turn into a propaganda machine.

Yeah the self-segregation is a downside, but I think the platforms are just crystallizing that way as a result of culture. I would still be on reddit (there are more active users) if they hadn't banned half the subs I enjoyed. If our culture ever recovers to a point where we don't just permaban everyone to the left/right of us then maybe we can have those open forums back.

I left reddit because I thought that censorship was hypocritical and dumb, I thought we could do something cool with Voat.

Now? I think it's obvious that if you give the regressives an inch they'll try to crucify you with it. I might go back to reddit and post here and there, because honestly I don't want to see a mainstream site given away to people who just want it for propaganda purposes. It's important for a site like that to maintain philosophical and political diversity, otherwise we lose a piece of our ability to exercise our 1st Amendment rights.
