Pretty amazing. I wish I would have discovered Voat a long time ago. It took this whole ordeal happening with reddit for me to find it. It's like a super charged reddit, better looking, better admins (though that's how reddit started out as well), and good people are more dominant. I have a feeling a lot of people feel this way.

not to rain on your good vibes but I believe its just a normal cycle of any subculture. It tends to cannibalize itself when it gets a little too big. Its quite interesting how the natural check and balance works, one thing is for sure though, reddit is never going to be the same now that voat exists.

Thing with voat is it definitely won't be another duplicate if this place wants to last long. If anything, consider it as an evolution from reddit just like how reddit evolved from 4chan. One is not necessarily better than the other. Just different. I'm ranting now and all I'm trying to do is to post content here just to show my support.

I hear you. I think the thing that's good for voat is that I would imagine it's mostly the people who care about more than just content (the people who comment and post) that were pissed with the direction reddit is going and so they're the bulk of who moved here. Hopefully all the troll people and don't cares will stay with reddit.

Rant away, I say. Voat is back online but the down time probably put a few people off. I'm hoping it continues to grow, and at least a few grumpy redditors stay!

How did reddit evolve from 4chan? It's basically a copy of how Digg worked (before the gigantic Digg commercialization/fuckup).

I agree, but these cycles lasting for awhile too. So, I'll enjoy Voat for the next few years before its culture explodes.

Reddit was over due for this. I'm kind of hoping Pao stays at reddit because more will migrate over here. I'm sure more will once a quality app is developed.

totally agree. I like the look and feel of it better as well. It's a little more 'shiny,' it seems. We'll see if i get tired of the look after a while. It is a little monotone, so i could see myself getting bored of that.

Maybe throw a suggestion for themes or something in /v/ideasforvoat?

Personally, I prefer the nightmode for voat because it's easier on my eyes.

The only thing I don't like about the appearance is that it isn't filling all the horizontal space on my screen. Is there a way to fix this?

Hmm, not sure on that. Personally, I would think at that width it would be nice to have the size fixed at a certain point. I bet there's a way to get it full width though because I think I read that you can use custom styles (somewhere in your settings you can paste css).

Right? I'm missing downvotes a lot less than I first expected, just because the content seems to be such good quality.

At first I didn't like not being able to downvote, but I realized the whole downvoting was like crabs in a bucket pulling each other down while they try to escape. Here we hold each other up over the crap with upvoats. At least that is how I am describing it for now. I have to change myself by upvoating what I like instead of downvoting what I don't like.

A word of warning: Those graphs don't start at zero. It makes it look like subscriber count has gone up 15X in the past few days, while it has increased by less than 50%. Also, instead of leaving placeholders for missing days of data, they omitted them from the graph entirely, so that the past four days of growth look like two.
I don't suspect foul play, I just find it to poorly represent the data.

Since nobody is answering, I'll give it a shot:

Sometime in May Voat twitter said 700 000 views/month...

Alexa.co is a monitoring traffic site, and for past 5 days I got:

  world rank US rank:

7/2: 20,786 2,832

7/3: 20,446 2,729

7/4: 20,100 2,666

7/5: 15,771 1,942

7/6: 13,406 1,607

So it is a very, very rapidly growing site for sure

How does that even work when most of those days consisted of statis error messages?

Edit: nevermind, I got it.

People will continue to come. Reddit is on a hot streak of fucking everything up. Voat has been down because within a month the site went from needing $20 worth of hosting a month to needing thousands. If anything, Voat has handled the growing pains remarkably well. There is a critical mass of people here now, so the site will continue to grow on its own. There will be future downtime as I fully expect Reddit to continue to fuck things up.

Honestly, the CEO of Reddit doesn't even know how to use the site. How can you expect that person to make good decisions?

from what i have heard, reddit did the same thing when the exodus from digg happened. Although digg was slightly different as it was a persistent UI problem, so everyday you logged in you were reminded why you didn't want to be there.

This is more or less what happens, There was no real competition to reddit until very recently. There was no way voat could have dreamt of affording the severs necessary to handle the bulk of the traffic, no one could. But voat has now been juiced by people who have left and now they have very serious statistics to get big money backing. Voat is now primed to be a big contender and it only took 3ish days.

We should see a decline in viewership in the coming days, we are out of the spotlight atm. All it takes is one small spark and voat will be launched into a very consistently viewed site. From there it can replace Reddit.

I don't think anyone would have expected the shit show that happened on reddit. Not even reddit admins themselves!

I'm planting my fucking feet until VOAT inevitably hires "tha dankest" chooter as CEO and the PAOwer gets to her head and ruins everything and everyone finally commits to the obvious permanent substitute: 8chan. /s

All deletes show up in a public log, its not removing the power to delete comments but it should increase accountability a ton. And welcome.
