$800 for the 2TB. That's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. It's really interesting to watch SSDs develop and get cheaper. It's like watching standard hard drives all over again. I can remember when a 1TB regular HDD would run you like $300, and now you can pick one up for under 100. I can also remember when 10,000RPM drives like the Velociraptor series were the peak of hard drive performance, and now they're basically floppy disks compared to the latest SSDs.
Technology cycles are fascinating. It's going to be crazy to see what kind of stuff is leading the cutting edge 15 years from now.

And apparently 1TB is just under $400 from the article says, which I would say is not incredibly bad either.

For sure, spinning rust right now is slowly becoming an edge case, once we find a way to make SSDs more reliable as offline storage that will pretty well be the death of spinning rust.

With the new 3D stuff sky's the limit.

It's getting there. 2TB is the point where it's enough space that these can start to really be used for large storage. The price is still way too high ($800+) but once they get down to $100 in a few years, magnetic drives are going to start to disappear.

I honestly doubt that. Making SSDs cheaper is worthless in isolation. They need to be cheaper than HDDs. If I can buy a 2 TB SSD for $100 or a 5 TB spinner for $100 I'm still buying the spinner.

I'd buy the SSD. I have a mix of ssds and hdds and every time I have to access the hdd I despise it. I know it's it only momentarily slower but it feels like forever to me.
