Remember, all, this isn't a good thing. The loss of an option, no matter how poor, is not good for that market. In the last year or so we went from 4 major mobile OS's to 2. Lack of competition can lead to staleness and complacency by producers.

Microsoft fucked up what made them who they are, their OS, in an effort to merge PC and phone. I am happy they failed. And i am happy this failure is driving people away from windows, and their shitty company.

Normally I would hate the idea of losing an option, but considering how much damage Microsoft is doing with Windows 10, how much they'll do in the future with things like Windows 10S, and their entire history... yeah. Their failure is arguably a net boon, and certainly no great loss.

That said, IIRC, they've got a version of Windows 10 for the phone, so this probably isn't really dead, just old versions.

I agree. Windows 7 was the last decent OS for windows. I'm a windows and mac dude, but I say Mac OS is beating windows right now in usability hands down.

Except the fact that Microsoft collided with NSA, and US government. They are piece of shit.

It's a literally keylogger spyware piece of shit company.

Windows 10 Mobile is still being developed, in spite of the tech media's best efforts.

They are only stopping support for windows 8.1. Windows 10 for mobile has been out some years already.

What a fucking stupid headline. Windows phones are still around, they are still actively developing Windows 10 Mobile, Windows 10 phones are still being made; The name change reflects the fact that it runs on more than just phones. It's a stupid technicality the author is taking advantage of to shit on MS. If a headline like this dropped on CNN it would be called fake news.

Funny thing is that it's going back to the original name scheme of the mobile OS (Windows Mobile) though that ran CE based Windows for phones and pocket PCs. Windows 10 Mobile is still part of the same family and you can upgrade from 8.1 to 10.

Same here, I'm running a Lumia 640 with Windows 10 Mobile set for Fast Ring previews.

I'm hoping to buy a Lumia 950 XL Duel-sim model this fall.

I had a 520 and a 720, loved them. I don't do phone games, facebook and all the social media crap, just need a minimalist smart phone with email for work, and you know, something that can make phone calls.

Linux killed them on phones. A Linux will soon kill them on desktop and laptop.

Companies are holding on to Windows 7 until end of life. Windows 10 has been forbidden by IT unless you have a really really really good reason and then you get extreme fire-walled to block any telemetry.

The thing is that they freaked out the Windows developers and the IT specialists when Microsoft abused their power and killed their granny's laptop by forced upgrade. If you get out of the Microsoft echo chamber then you realize that Developers have lost hope in Microsoft. And when you lose developers you lose products and in the end all you have is this lazy SAP.

We are in a transition time and all developers I know have been toying with Linux by now. People are getting experience. As a developer you have to think about the next wave and that will surely not be Microsoft.

Will companies jump away from Microsoft? Definitely they will try. Step by step when good developers move away from the Windows platform, you end up with the low quality developers. There is a brain drain going on at Microsoft and developers in many enterprises.

There is no way that Microsoft can steer the ship around and save the day. In the next few years Microsoft products will suck more and more.

Year of the Linux desktop!!!!1111. I've been hearing this shit since 97. Linux is just as unusable today as it was in 91.

There is still BlackBerry.

If they're still around in a year I might get one or a Sony. I hate Google, Samsung, & Apple. At least with Blackberry I would be using their services.

Edit, Windows 10 Mobile is still going. That's what I'm running on my Lumia 640. Ok, this is a relief for the moment as my plans to buy a Lumia 950 XL Duel sim model this fall are now still on.
