If you are concerned with browsing privacy then it's more about domain names (3rd party scripsts, apis, widgets) and you can block them locally via hosts file. Below is quite popular hosts "blacklist" that is regualry updated. http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

Regarding firewall, I think if you router can act as DNS server with fallback to public DNS, you could try to configure it with this host file, not sure if this is doable with consumer routers.

that is a great hosts file, i have been using it on all my devices for years.
