Thanks for your response. For me it is a new frontier and one frankly I am excited about. I am only using the box as a glorified entertainment system but dammit, it wont be windoez.

If you are looking to use Linux (whether Ubuntu or any other distro) for your desktop, I'd highly recommend you look around at the different Desktop Environments that are available. My preference has been Unity but KDE has always been a close second. For my netbook, I use Cinnamon in Linux Mint. A rather promising one is the new Budgie desktop; Ubuntu just added the Budgie on Ubuntu project as a new official flavor.

I did look at mint, while great for a workstation environment. I am old and my eyes are poorly. I puttzed around with this. http://tour.ubuntu.com/en/ it seemed to have a much more pleasant interface. But I do not know enough about it all.
