That's excellent. The whole 'convergence' idea, that you could have a single user interaction paradigm which would be optimal on multiple 24"+ screens as well as on a single 5" screen, was a stupid-ass idea from the start.
Being able to run applications on a phone or desktop computer? Not so stupid. Being able to run a traditional desktop environment on a phone? Also not so stupid. Same interface form factor on both? What the fuck are you smoking. It's like saying that vehicles should all have similar interfaces, and trying to come up with a way to lace Boeing 747s onto your feet like rollerskates.

I wonder how many people are migrating to Ubuntu? I am installing an earlier version (16.04.2) onto a box that had windows vista. I have very limited experience with Linux, i'm at that stage where its just going Mac, Chromebook and Linux. Windows inst even a candidate for me any longer.

I suspect that Canonical is seeing a relatively high number of new installs. Probably not anything that would hurt Microsoft but anecdotally, I've seen a lot of people who dislike Windows 10 enough to either stay with 7 (or even 8) indefinitely and a handful of people who have moved over to Linux (mostly Ubuntu). All of my family (save for my brother who refuses to give up 7) are on some variant of Ubuntu and I use vanilla Ubuntu.
I can't say this news makes me happy. I really like Unity 7 (not sure what to think about 8 yet) and hope 18.04 ships with Unity-like Gnome setup. Otherwise I'll probably have to move to Kubuntu as Gnome wastes an awful lot of screen space.

Thanks for your response. For me it is a new frontier and one frankly I am excited about. I am only using the box as a glorified entertainment system but dammit, it wont be windoez.
