That's the same reason I use Navy Fed Credit. Had to many problems with BofA and Wells dicking me around with my own money. But now I mostly save up with Gold instead.

Been a USAA member for two years. One word: Awesome.

The customer service is outstanding. The mobile tools are excellent. Haven't been hit with a fee for anything yet.

They do not service commercial customers--meaning they don't do businesses--which in turn means I am the real customer as retail member. Any bank that services business and retail customers is using the retail customer's money to fund the loans to their commercial customers. YOU are not their customer. USAA doesn't, as of yet, do commercial lending or servicing. Yay, us members!

A couple of other cool things about USAA:

1) They took NO MONEY from the government during the bailouts. NONE. ZIP. NADA. And they grew.

2) They are a bank for the middle class--not for the elite. From the above linked article:

By its very definition, USAA serves the middle class. It does business only with current and former members of the military and their families. Studies have shown that the U.S.'s all-volunteer military is dominated by members of the middle class, not the elite.

I love being a member of USAA!

They refund ATM fees at the end of every month, and you can use I think UPS stores as the brick and mortar part. If you can, use USAA. They also have loans and investing.

Thoughts on Chase? I haven't had any issues with them in my experience.
