I've been telling people for years that copyright law is extremely dangerous, and that it has far more to it than just downloading songs.
I suspect that by the time people realize that I'm right, it's going to be a very long, hard battle to get to somewhere reasonable. Hopefully by that time, assuming success, they'll have the brains to do away with other parts of it that are just as dangerous in different ways, e.g. the 'time limited' provision that's effectively 'one planck second before the heat death of the universe.'
In the meantime, though, we're looking at the Internet of Things effectively meaning corporations own just about every gadget they can get their hands on, regardless of if you paid for it or not, and they will be pushing for legislation to make it a crime to try to do what you wish to with your own property, and probably a crime to have a computer unencumbered with external controls for corporate intervention and spying, and hardware-enforced DRM. I've actually seen at least one asswipe on Slashdot (hopefully a paid shill) say we should submit to this gladly because that's our place in society. That said, I'm just glad that TPP didn't pass... that's a real nightmare scenario for this stuff. Though I suspect they may try to cram it through the process anyway (again) in a few years...
