You're still required to give inherent trust to the proxy service. You have no guarantee that you aren't being logged. So you're actually doubling the amount of blind trust you have to hand out... first to the man in the middle startpage, then to google.

It's a workaround, not a solution.

Not doubling, since you cut Google out of the loop. But you are putting a big flag on yourself, saying to anyone wanting to snoop that you probably have more interesting things to search than the masses using Google.

Fair point.

What I mean was that if Google were able to get data through the SP proxy (image result, appended url info, result sites being hosted on their server, etc) then you have two potential sources of concern rather than one.
