If that means that I am able to get a pirate copy of it that I am then free to edit with something like WinReducer before installing it, then this is excellent news to me. It would be a lot harder to get hold of a pirate copy of it if it was only available via updates. And out of anything I have ever pirated I don't give a shit about Windows because the only reason that I use it is that 99% of game development companies are too busy sucking micro soft cock to bother with even considering releasing a Linux version. I use it because I have no other option in many cases. To me that's a monopoly. And that makes piracy of it 100% justified in my opinion.
No. I love Linux myself, but it's not just the devs holding back gaming. It's shitty drivers as well. And a little bit of the "It's not open-source, I won't have it on my system" rhetoric from it's users. The linux community has made a toxic environment for game developers that want to actually make money. It's getting better- and hopefully Valves efforts will help, at least with Debian based distros, but as of yet, there is no reason for AAA devs to support linux from a profit standpoint.
Yeah you have a really good point there actually. A lot of the Linux crowd are completely elitist and hipster and hold back a lot of possible progress in the name of 'purity'. And as for the driver situation on Linux, this should tell you how I feel about that: fuck you AMD for your shitty half assed Linux drivers that are only slightly more useful then the generic drivers while faithfully releasing awesome updates for Windows all the time. I didn't buy my graphics card for Windows, I bought it for my COMPUTER.
Well I'm at the point with my PC where the maximum that it can manage as far as gaming goes is Skyrim (I mean I could probably run GTAV if I pushed it but I'm not interested in reducing draw distance or spawns or anything). In Windows it runs between 30 and 60 fps depending on the location and situation. In Linux through Wine it runs at 10 fps at best (I haven't checked the exact value) and is pretty much unplayable. The same goes for any of the newer games I've tried in Wine. And any other PC games that I play are older and easily emulated in DOSbox or VirtualBox.
My idea is to set up a Windows partition dedicated to gaming and hopefully find a way of stripping it of it's ability to connect to the internet. Otherwise I just won't tether my phone to it and it won't have access anyway. Every other partition I have is Ext4, swap or EFI. Windows only gets what I give it, it doesn't even have access to my movies or music collection, save a few choice songs for use in San Andreas. I'll try Wine again when I have a newer, better computer.
Well I am running a pirate copy of 8.1 and I do have the little upgrade icon but honestly I would prefer not to take any chances. Also, I usually prefer to do clean installs of my OSes from time to time, particularly with major updates. Also, if I organize an iso of it instead of upgrading to it I will be able to edit the installation before even starting my install to remove any undesirable elements from it. I'm actually even considering stripping my copy of Windows from having the ability to connect to the internet altogether so that it can stay contained in it's little partition and not do anything that I don't want it to do. There are alternative ways of installing Windows updates.

Have you tried Wine instead of probably exposing yourself to a botnet?

I checked out the pirate bay to see what people said about this upgrade.
Apparently people with a pirated copy of 8 are able to reserve a copy of Windows 10.
