This is a scary practice, totally agree. Corporate censorship somehow seems more benign to people because 'they have a choice'. When you consider the ubiquity of Googles search engine though, the choices are slim. I hope this bites them in the ass. I started using Bing for porn searches a while ago and this does nothing but encourage me to use other search engines for non-porn.

Now articles are going to talk about other search engines (or a new one without censorship) like they have "no rules" or "anything goes" just like they do when comparing Voat to Reddit. As if without censorship the site must be the wild west. Sadly, this seems to be a growing trend, and I sure as hell don't like it.

Right? As if we're not adults and can't make our own decisions.

Seeing as I'm having a difficult time coming up with a legitimate reason to be searching for revenge porn or for it to exist at all, aside from those that get off to revenge porn (at which point... sucks to be you guys I guess, I assume you have your inner demons. Maybe see if can build a porn company that works on short movies with willing participants in a safe manner to non-violently recreate some of these fantasies you're obviously having?), I can't see any problem with Google blocking it. Presently, virtually all use of the term will be for illegal and horrific reasons. Perhaps if in the future the trend changes, and somehow that becomes a legitimate term (for example, should the legitimate porn industry in this field suddenly take off), then as long as Google would be willing to unblock it, should this unlikely scenario arise, then I'm fine with this level of censorship from them.

There's other search engines after all. Duck Duck Go is getting pretty popular I hear. There's room for more than one search engine. Just... don't compete to destroy eachother is all.

I'm pretty sure revenge porn has nothing to do with violence, it's when you make a sex video with your sig other and then break up and post it online. It's arguably a violation of one party's privacy, though I interpret it as a foolish misapplication of agency, ie if you don't want your ex to post your sex video don't make a fucking sex video. But I'm a generally unsympathetic fellow when it comes to humans and the fucked up shit they do to each other.

Hidden camera videos seem to be a much greater violation of privacy and rights but somehow that doesn't seem to be at issue here.

Ah, I misunderstood with the violent part.

Regardless, it's still horrifically illegal in a variety of ways, and who's only purpose is to destroy another's life. I stand by the rest of my post.

Regarding the "just don't make a video", that's a pointless argument. Some people get off on it, just telling them not to is pointless. It's going to happen regardless of any hopes or dreams we have of them stopping. For things like that, I consider "just nobody ever do this" to be a dead argument. It does however require trust, and precautions. If someone breaches a trust like that in that manner, that's where it's all kinds of fucked up. Taking the most joyous moments of a person's life, and turning it into their worst nightmare.

Cool, wish they could exclude my personal info (on a mormon site for some reason) from the search engine too, but I don't live in a country with a "right to be forgotten"

I have a hard time being mad at an action which disappears clearly criminal/exploitative behavior. There's a big difference between censorship and the removal of revenge porn from search results.

There's a big difference between censorship and the removal of revenge porn from search results.

The only difference is how you feel about the outcome. Any censorship sets a terrible precedent.

We are slowly reverting back to the AOL days... where you would pay for internet and get kicked off for 2 weeks if you cursed. Yep, my mom wasn't happy.
