You are not the user

This is probably the single most important piece of that article. Know your audience, because YOU are not your audience.

My goodness, being able to solder and rig up Pis and Duinos must make a regular Alan Turing. That's kind of depressing.

Only 5% of users are savvy enough to schedule a meeting room or search by a date range? No wonder productivity growth is anemic, 95% of the population has worse technologg skills than your average administrative assistant.

They should start a show: "Are you smarter than a secretary?"

"The main point I want to make is that you, dear reader, are almost certainly in the top category of computer skills, level 3."

Isn't this a symptom of survival of the fittest? Should we allow people get dumber and dumber? Just because something isn't designed to perfection doesnt means you shouldn't know how to use it anyway. Something deep inside me finds it unsettling that most people do not yet basic computer skills or knowledge.

Picture this: far in the future, people are ALL users and no one actually understands the devices they use anymore. There is an elite subsect of programmers thst can dictate the users behavior and who hold tremedous power.

..now that i write it out ,it doesnt sound so bad. If we follow this trend of 'designing for idiots', we might actually get smart people with enough power to change the world for good. The barrier to use technology gets smaller and smaller, but the barrier to create software gets higher and higher.

Just make sure you're on the right side when shit goes down.

The real losers here are Boomers. They're dying in droves, so the sooner they go the better things will become. I laugh at these assholes - they thought they'd have moon base, flying cars, fusion power, and most importantly - eternal youth, immortality. Instead, they shot their wad at killing brown people overseas and lost everything else - and good fucking riddance. The last people in the world who deserve immortality are boomers, and I'm glad - overjoyed, even - that these fuckers will die, shitting themselves and forgetting their own names. Fuck the lot of them.
