I really like this. I don't get why there are always lots of negative comments about it. If you don't like ads, and you don't want to pay anything, then what do you want? Please, propose a solution. Hosting sites costs money, and at the moment the only viable monetisation strategy is advertising...which leads to profiling and tracking and spying and all that lovely stuff. More than that, the site owners know that the advertisers are their boss. They will make changes to the site to please the advertiser, not you. This is a fundamental problem that needs to be fixed, or before you know it, voat will be banning /v/fatpeoplehate because the advertisers found it distasteful.

When you get "free stuff" there's a sense of entitlement that inevitably follows. I agree that we need advertising or some kind of revenue to fund writers, hosting, and whatever other infrastructure and staff are needed for quality journalism or whatever. If everyone just wants "free information" then you'll get that quality - no wonder the internet is becoming a shithole of clickbait crap.
