That is true, however, LO is significant as a distinct project both because of the massive code clean-up they did on the codebase as well as the fact that LO is owned by the developers and community where OO was (until recently) owned by a separate corporation who were not always easy for outsiders to work with. LO is a fine example of one aspect of why Free/Libre and Open Source Software is needed; when the original project goes south or stagnates, the interested parties can simply fork it and make it even better than before. So 6 years later, we have a new office suite that is significantly better than the suite that it forked from.

I expect you already know this, but I felt like writing it out anyway.

I did know. But it's a piece of nicely written text without even naming the companies.

Agreed, just like when Firefox turned to shit Pale Moon was there to pick up and run with the code. Or when Ubuntu put in their Unity interface that a LOT of people hated, there's always the other *buntus with more familiar desktop environments, or there's Mint. Also Ubuntu MATE which is similar to GNOME.

i know this makes me a sellout and everything. but i just hacked Word. i got tired or Libre not opening right in word and vica-versa. i have to send out bullet points and shit like that, its not worth the extra time to dick with it.

great program, but word is what everyone uses. if you dont need to work in an office ? great program!

Other people cannot easily edit PDFs. They are lovely for distributing content, but terrible for collaborating.
