These fines are always just laughable. According to the article, the list of companies that Intel's tactics successfully coerced into using Intel only included Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and NEC. Do you think this added more or less than 5% to Intel's revenues? Because this fine of $1.2 billion is less than 2.2% of Intel's single year revenues. And the single year part is important. We can say that a 2.2% revenue gain is the break even point, but it's not. That's for a single year, if they only increased their revenues by 0.5% per year, their activity would likely still have been profitable. This is a company that paid about $5 billion in dividends alone last year. Until regulators start willing to actually hurt companies with fines, they're laughing all the way to the bank with these sort of anti-trust [limp] slaps on the wrist.

The companies keep doing it because they know they wont be punished. The regulators get private kickbacks and give token fines. Its sickening.
