Hopefully they'll at least build working prototypes. Even if they could get a 15 inch diameter one to work. You could send baby Kal-el halfway around the world in 17 hours. Hyperadoptions to the highest world wide bidder.

Fresh food and produce would be available from everywhere in the world. Exotic pets available from anywhere in the world.

You call up China, a few hours later, you'll have whatever you want custom built and delivered to you for a great price.

Pollution would be greatly reduced, you no longer need to go anywhere. Whatever you want can be sent to you wherever you are right now.

My claustrophobic nightmare just came true. Being in a small tube, lying down, for 17 hours. What you are describing with quick delivery is already possible now, with jetplanets, helicopters, drones, whatnot. But it's really expensive. The question is what will the cost of transport be with this 'device'.
