So the thing that makes people REALLY hate chrome (this is what causes the chrome memory hog). I think its great for me (since I like it) that its coming to firefox, but TERRIBLE for browser diversity.

Per process tabs does not imply a high memory footprint, bad code is probably the cause. You can always use an old version too, there are "long term support" versions of Firefox on Debian's repos that get basically just security updates.
