I bought a new Win8 Lenovo laptop a couple of months ago - the first machine I hadn't hand-built and installed a BSD or Linux OS since 2004.

Within days it turned out Lenovo had filled it full of crapware and spyware, so I got rid of that. I installed Antivirus and configured the firewall, used it responsibly installing software from trusted sources and still got infected with cryptolocker. The trackpad kept freezing and games wouldn't centre properly on the screen in fullscreen due to bad drivers.

I still have a Win8 partition but only for Steam games. Any serious work is done on my Linux partition.

So why do you think you got infected with cryptlocker? Because of windows? And the trqckpad drivers, was this issue unique to your machine? Did google offer no respite?

Sounds like you got Silverfish:

Lenovo installs it on new PCs and it is malware/spyware. I think it is also a Rootkit.
