So this acts like a confirmation prompt? Wait, why don't emails have confirmation prompts anyway?
I've made the same mistake a few times where instead of sending emails from my company account, it's sent from my personal account. This 'unsend' email feature could be implemented by every email service provider by prompting the user for a confirmation like:
Does anyone know why Outlook has had the ability to recall emails for a decade, but gmail is just getting around to it? I use the feature weekly in Outlook, and I know that I can't be the only one who has wanted it with gmail for ages.
I've never actually seen the recall feature work. For recall to work, you and the recipient should be on the same MS Exchange server which is specifically configured to process recall messages. I've seen exactly one instance where this actually worked.
That makes sense that being on the same server would make it possible, thanks.
I'm surprised that you have had such a poor experience with the feature. I use it all the time (I'm a chronic attachment forget-er), and have verified that it actually worked (not just sending a notification saying that it did) on multiple occasions.

Either way, I think it's a good idea.

This feature has been in Gmail's Labs for at least a few years. I use it daily.

So, basically, it's just a delay?

Yup seems like it, as many other have said it's not really new. However they are advertising it as new with the INBOX.
