How do you know it didn't find a way?
I recall fixing someone's computer ten or fifteen years or so ago who then asked, "What happened to my wireless internet?" I asked to see their DSU, was told they didn't have one.
After talking with her for a while I realized that someone had built wardriving software into AOL's client, and it was connecting to her neighbor's WiFi by cracking WEP.
That was disturbing. And exactly the sort of thing one would expect of an untrustworthy corporation.
