I didn't see the whole thing, but technology trends that shape consumer thought and behavior are disturbing. It's sorta like the Yelp controversy over extorting restaurants to remove (fake?) bad reviews - if you control the eyeballs then it easily lends itself to subtle or overt manipulation.
Like any business, Google monetizes their products and services. They make money through android pay transaction fees on merchants, and only merchants that support android pay are likely to be shown. This is in a way, turning Google into Amazon, where transactions are monetized. Nothing illegal about this at all, but when you're on Amazon you know you're shopping with Amazon. With Google, it feels like you're shopping "the internet" instead of a walled garden, so in a way, Google may make you feel like you're being shown everything but in reality you're only seeing their walled garden.

Outside of split window apps and Google as a bot the rest seemed meh.

100% agree. I'm interested and concerned how Google will balance privacy (encryption and incognito) and controlling what we see and do

If the consumers are too weak minded to do this themselves they deserve what they get. Those that are strong will see this as an opportunity...
