Fun fact: on a lot of sites, that overlay is just another element you can select and block. It brings me great joy to block those crybaby windows.

Usually, it's just some javascript drawing the overlay. Simply disable javascript and you'll never see it. In fact, browsing with javascript disabled by default is not only safer, but also removes a lot of annoying "features" from many websites.

You can also just hit the reload and then the stop loading (basically a slow double click on the reload page button), then read the article.

I understand that they think they are attracting advertisers by requiring users to have the ads loaded, but they are decreasing their overall traffic by doing this, thus making them a less desirable site to advertise on. The should just use the "drudge technique", reload the page every 10 seconds and claim a new hit each time....then they can falsely claim "2 billion clicks per year"

Hmm this would explain theme holding out for awhile....... regardless of people retaliating
