I mean, I guess they have a point. If you made a habit of unplugging everything when you weren't using it, you would see an energy savings. The question you have to ask yourself is how much is your time worth and how willing are you to put up with the inconvenience of dealing with it and any consequences it might bring, like losing your device settings constantly. The savings are going to be single digits a month at most.
You'd save magnitudes more money by simply replacing all of your household light bulbs with LED models.
