My name is Michael and I recently migrated back over to the Windows world after nearly 8 years with Macs. I grew up with XP so this transition wasn't too hard, and when I picked up my Surface Pro 3 I finally understood Windows 8 - it's an operating system for the Surface that works fantastic and was clunky as hell for any normal PC.
My worries about Windows 10 is that I'm going to lose a lot of what I love about Windows 8 on my surface, so I'm actually in the middle of upgrading to the Windows 10 preview right now. I wanted to pop over here (since I'll be using Voat instead of Reddit moving forward) to see if anyone here had any requests or questions about Win10, the SP3, or both in concert.
Just let me know if there's anything you'd like me to test, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!
EDIT1: Whoops, forgot to include which SP3 I have. It's the i7, 8 gig, 128 internal HDD model. I just finished the upgrade, and it is choppy as all get to start out with. I went through the website to upgrade, and it kept everything in place as it was in my 8.1 installation. If my performance doesn't increase after some tweaking and a reboot, I might just try to do a full wipe and reinstallation (still trying to figure out if that's possible at this point).
EDIT2: I'm just gonna talk to the wall for now. Definitely not working out well at all with a very noticeable and jarring lag to every action. Since it was an upgrade and not a full installation (I always prefer the latter over the former), I'm going to wipe the drive and install a clean copy of Windows 10. Should take an hour or so and I'll update afterwards if there is any improvement.
EDIT3: Huh, didn't see that coming. Turns out the full reset option inside of Windows 10 restored me back to a vanilla 8.1 Pro install. No worries - starting the upgrade again, this time with a fresh computer.
EDIT4: In case anyone finds this later, this restore and upgrade is taking forever. Forgot I'd have to run the firmware upgrade again before the Win10 preview could be installed. Finally back to upgrading now, based on the last upgrade it should be done within the next hour or so. Only problem is I found a blog (https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/3142/windows-10-technical-preview-2-surface-3) that recommended I change the upgrade path and run any outstanding updates which might tack on another hour or so
EDIT5: Final edit for a while. Finally got up to build 10130 and ran all of the updates available. Initial impression is very impressive at this point. After some starting sluggishness, which I suspect might have been due to indexing, the OS is incredibly fluid. The ability to jump between tablet and PC mode is incredibly well done, the OS runs very smooth on my SP3, and I actually kind of like this new browser (which was born from the ashes of it which must not be named). All in all, very good start for a developer release.
I'll be checking in on this post so if you stumble across this and have any questions / requests please don't hesitate to respond!
